When participating in social media, there are many ‘channels’ that are available for you to use to spread your message and to connect with your customers.
A ‘channel’ is simply a method that you use as a business to promote yourself and could include any of the following:
- Blogs
- Videos (YouTube)
- Wikis
- Audio (podcasting)
- Text Messaging (SMS)
- Microblogging (Twitter)
- Social Networks (Facebook)
- Photo Sharing (Flickr)
- Local social networks (Trusteria)
- etc.
Each of these channels allows you - and more importantly your customers - to post content that relates to your business in some fashion.

For all of the good that social media can do to help promote your business products and services, it can also harm them if you are not careful and do not take the time to learn about how to use each tool properly.
