In our social media seminar that we had earlier today we briefly touched on how important it is to ensure that your business web site is built using valid HTML code.
There are a lot of reasons for this but one of the biggest reasons to ensure you have a site built that uses validated code is because it affects your search engine optimization.
Here is a great article that talks about the idea and I thought that many of you that attended our seminar would be helped by having this as a resource for you to look at.
Check your websites code by visiting the W3C’s Website Valiator (it’s free and easy!).

As a Tallahassee area business owner, you should always be concerned about what Google has to say about your website.
Here are a few quick tricks that you can use to find out what exactly Google knows about your web site:
(for each of these examples replace the www.social850.com with your domain name)
- SITE:
- site:www.social850.com
- this lists pages that Google has indexed in your web site - the more the better!
- LINK:
- link:www.social850.com
- this lists pages that link to your web site’s front page
- CACHE:
- cache:www.social850.com
- this shows the current cache of your web site
- INFO:
- info:www.social850.com
- this shows information that Google has about your site
- RELATED:
- related:www.social850.com
- this shows pages that are similar to your web site
You should be checking these operators in Google on a regular basis especially after you add new content to your site and have given Google a few days to index that new content.
Most importantly, you should always be concerned about what the most important search engine - Google - has to say about your business!
